I grew up in Minnesota, became a nurse, traveled, and lived in several states. Years ago I came to Santa Barbara to visit my sister and brother, and stayed here. In time, my sister and I became housemates.
Missing the experience of having children in my life, I began taking college courses and became a fully qualified preschool teacher. I've had a rewarding second career working with the children.
I've been a teacher at St. Mark Preschool for 15 years, although I 'retired' for only a year as I had to get back to these special little people. Since 'retirement' my position has become support staff to the director and to the other teachers. The staff, families and children make St. Mark Preschool my 'home away from home.
Hello, I am the new 2 year old teacher and I am looking forward to creating lasting bonds with your children and families. I am a local Santa Barbarian and was educated in our wonderful school system. I earned an A.S. degree from SBCC in Early Childhood Education. I then went on to Cal Poly to complete their Human and Child Development program with a minor in Ethnic Studies.
I was a nanny for twins while completing school. I have been married for 15 years and have two beautiful amazing sons, Aidan 14 and Jordan 9.
I spent many years living on the Big Island of Hawaii, helping my family with their Macadamia Nut Ranch. Returning to Santa Barbara, I was a teacher at Rainbow school for over 12 years and have worked with every age group including school age after school and most enjoy the 2 years old due to their loving, sweet nature. I hope to have a fulfilling and complete work experience here at St. Mark.
Hi, I am excited for my second year at St. Mark! I am the lead teacher and team-teach with Dominique in the two-year-old Starfish classroom. I have been involved in child care since my teen years and it’s become a passion. I enjoy getting to know the students because they each have a unique personality.
I am also passionate for animals and have a seven-year-old pit bull named Maya. I am currently enrolled at SBCC to further my knowledge in Early Child Education.
I have worked with young children in various settings for over a decade. My interest in the field of Early Childhood Education began when my family participated in the Starr King Parent Child Workshop. I was intrigued and enchanted by the world that I discovered on the playground and the profound role of educators in the lives of young children. Eventually, I returned to school and earned a Child Development Permit at the site supervisor level.
In the interim, I worked as a trained professional in the area of Early Intervention where I assessed and supported young children with developmental delays. The company that I worked for provided reflective supervision as well, which helped us to examine how our choices and biases affected the outcomes of our cases. During this time period I also had the wonderful opportunity to travel and receive additional specialized training, such as The Infancy and Early Childhood Training Course taught by the late Dr. Stanley Greenspan, M.D.
I hope to create an indoor/outdoor classroom that will nurture our children’s diverse interests, whether it is discovering how to mix and create a color, watching a caterpillar eat a leaf, building a Lego structure or sharing a pretend-play scenario such as having a tea party. Literacy is a passion of mine, and it is a personal goal that every child in my class will have the opportunity to experience the joy and music of language when we share a favorite picture book, rhyme or song.
Most of all I want the children to feel welcomed and loved for the unique individuals that they all are, to develop friendships, and to have a sense of belonging here at St. Mark!
I love living and working in Santa Barbara, where I was born and raised, and now am raising my two daughters Gillian, (17), and Madison (22), with my husband of 29 years, Gary.
I have been a preschool teacher since 2007 when I made the decision to go back to school and pursue my passion of working with children. I enrolled at SBCC and majored in Early Childhood Education. I completed 38 units in ECE and I received my Child Development Permit and my certificate of Achievement in ECE. I have been a teacher at St. Mark Preschool since September 2008. I started as a teacher's assistant in the two year-old classroom, but quickly became the lead teacher, where I taught for the next four years. Then, in September 2012, I moved up to the three year-old classroom and that is where I am today. My class is called the Busy Bees and we are a fun and active classroom. I love what I do. The children I work with surprise and amaze me every day with their curiosity, excitement and passion for learning - simply preschool rocks!
